Route 66, anyone interested?

Hi

Hello , your road trip sounds great , however , except in a few short segments Hwy 66 doesn't exist . The route now is mostly high speed interstate hwy . Following the route is fun though , the small towns bypassed by the new roads are treasures full of old diners and motels from the Day . Flagstaff AZ has a trove of funky sites especially old road motels . Cruising the wide open back roads of the Plains on the way , a favorite of mine . The immensity of the sky and the solitude of the Desert . The pounding surf of the Pacific - don't you want to bypass LA and all that entails or are you a purist . Just head up the street an hour on the coast hwy and end your trip above Malibu at Leo Carillo state Park or Dan Blocker (Bonanza TV show) state beach - you might even see a film or commercial being made at Carillo - just hate to see a grand trip finish in the snarl of the City . Good Luck . Being a nomad , I've very extensive insight to the sight , smells, and sounds of the Backroad America . Let me know if I can help w/ other info

Rachel_uk look on roadtripusa.com for alternative routes, there is one on there that follows the officially decommissioned route 66
