Hi, i was wondering how much money should i take to Colombia i want to spend a month but i want to go and have fun. Can someone please help me?. Can someone tell me an estimate how much U.S dollars should i bring with me? THANK YOU!!!
You shouldn't bring any US Dollars with you. Colombia is awash in drug money, they're trying to get RID of cash - not buy more - so exchange rates on cash generally suck.
ATMs are by far the best way to handle your budget there. Get a decent Debit Card with no foreign transaction fee and you're in business.
Costs vary wildly depending on your tastes. You can spend 1,200 COP on a drink in a bar, or get 175,000 COP bottle service in a high-end disco. A decent room in a hostel can be 20,000 COP or a hotel can be ten times that, or more.
Your best investment by far right now is to pick up a guide book. It'll an invaluable resource for your research.

No one can tell you what's enough money when you give no clue whatsoever regarding what you're expecting or what your tastes are.
Your budget wouldn't even buy one night in a top business hotel, but it would be fine for a backpacker budget. You couldn't be going crazy, but $3K USD is about 200,000 COP per day so that's enough to be comfortable by most people's standards who are travelling on a modest budget.
Lastly, I have to ask again... why Cali? If you're going there to meet an Internet romance then your budget is WAY too low...

Well im planning to have fun and get to know cali i know there are other places to go in colombia but i choose this one because i always wanted to come here. I dont have an internet romance but i am planning to have fun i appreciate your honesty and for calculating the budget i would have for everyday with $3000. I dont want to be in a five stars hotel at least a three stars hotel would be fine, I though that with $100 i can manage myself pretty well in Colombia. I guess it it more expensive than living in NYC, also in does thirty days there is always couple of days that ill stay home probably cause of the weather. How about if i take $6000 is that better? I have been to Columbia but nowhere near Cali. I have heard of people who went there and they stayed in their hotel listening to gunfire outside. Why would you want to spend one day there let alone a month? Cartagena is quite nice and a long way away.
