Is Eurorail the best way to get from country to country and is it comfortable travel. for someone over 40?..

No it isn't.
A Eurail pass can have it's advantages - but generally (especially in Eastern Europe), domestic tickets bought either in advance or on the day will work out much cheaper.
A Eurail pass won't determine the comfort of your trip - that depends on the train you're on. Some are superb in standard class - others are grubby in first class.
I have been using it and it's been working well for me and saving some money. But I knew my exact dates etc before i started, which i think may help. I don't think it's a good idea if you don't have an exact itinerary sorted yet.
Travelling by train is a good idea, but a Eurail pass is not always the cheapest option. Many people end up paying the more for a Eurail pass than for regular train tickets. You need to compare prices carefully.
