Buses (over long distances) are actually pretty expensive in Australia for some reason, I usually find you will get cheaper Plane fares or sometimes even Train fares. Not sure why our bus system is so costly. Another option would be to hire a cheap car if you wanted to do the drive!
How long are you thinking of staying in Aus?

If you hire a campervan or buy a car and get some tents you will save heaps on travel expenses and accomodation.
Currrently travelling the east coast now and whatever your budget is double it because it is so expensive here especially in the cities.
I'm doing Sydney to Cairns but have heard from fellow travellers that Cairns to Sydney is better :S
Make sure you visit Port Stephens (stay in the YHA there) its off the beat and track but well worth it and if seeing dolphins is your thing the boat trips are fantastic. The best experience so far for me here.

oz experiance also do the buss pass i think there a bit cheaper but people say there not as good. im 20 im going over to cairns late ausgust on my own. pooing my pants about meting people! haha

hey mat, thanks for your reply. We are planning on staying for about 12 months we are going to apply for the 12month working visa. I dont really want to drive, im an awful driver over here so dont want to risk crashing over there haha!
Hello kim, thanks for your reply. What do u think the best kind of budget is to take if we are going for a year? will also being working for a little time while we are over there. I cant wait to see the dolphins!!

im going over to cairns in august after ive turned 21 and im gonna make my way down the coast to spend christmas and new years in sydney then if i have the money and i like the whole travelling thing im gonna go over to bangkok and do a few places over there as my friend told me its amazing over there. have any ideas yourself yet or are you just going to go with the flow?

i havent got a clue yet, just looking where to go, how to get around and how much money we should take. I get lost over here at the best of times so going to just stay in australia dont want to risk going anywhere else haha! but i may change my mind once im out there. What are you going to do about transport when you are out there?

errmm for transport il just get one of the hop on off pass things with either the greyhound one or oz experiance. like you need to get money sorted first think il need more then i acpected from begining hopeing to get about 4000 and something not that easy staying in every night untill then though! haha. haha getting lost is fun thing about it lol gonna get lost at some point just gotta get unlost haha.
