I'm planning on flying into Cairns and traveling all down the gold coast and ending up in Melbourne. I'll spend 4 months doing it, but was just wondering if anyone can advise me on how much money I'll need? I'm planning on staying in hostels, maybe camping a bit. Cheap accommodation really. Haven't decided yet how I'm going to travel down the coast, but I'll be doing it fairly cheap. Would £5,000 be enough money for 4 months traveling the east coast?
Yeah it should be enough but a lot of it depends on how frugal you can be with your budget. Major costs are accommodation and food (and alcohol). Australia can be expensive.
Hey James, when are u thinking of going?
I think You might be ok on 5grand. But be careful, if you're staying in hostels for the whole time, it mounts up... average around $26 per night x 120 nights is over $3100..
That's if you can find hostels that cheap. Australia IS very expensive. (a snickers bar is usually about $2.50... and a mcdonalds big mac meal around $8-10. To put it in perspective)
Good luck and happy travels!
as for the actual travelling bit, i'm using greyhound from cairns to melbourne. my pass was pretty cheap (and includes 10 nights accommodation). when are you travelling?
