Dear expert travellers!
Five days is way too long for Bucharest. Spend one day there, then head to southern Transylvania: base yourself in Brasov or Sibiu, do some day trips to the many sites nearby (Sighisoara medieval city, Peles palace, Dracula's castle in Bran, the old German villages etc.) or some hiking and finally catch a night train to Budapest.
As for thermal baths, try to get to Ocna Sibiuiui (20 minutes away from Sibiu).
dear rmm,
thanks so much for ur advice. its interesting.
do u have any idea how long from sibiu to budapest?
how to go from bucharest to transylvania?by train or bus?
how much thermal bath coz i have been serching for the price but i cant find any.
thanks
Sibiu to Budapest takes about 10 hours by direct train.
To get from Bucharest to Sibiu it's best to use buses (check schedules on http://www.autogari.ro/Transport/Bucuresti-Sibiu/643-520.aspx?lang=en ) and to Brasov trains (they run every hour, search timetables on http://www.cfr.ro/calatori/ ).
At the pools in Ocna Sibiului I think entrance prices start around €4.
Hey there
In Budapest most thermal baths are quite expensive, but for example Rudas is not that expensive, at least not compared to Szechenyi Thermal Bath (my personal favorite) and the Gellert Bath. Besides this you should taste some Hungarian wine while in Budapest, and of course go on a Danube Cruise in the night to see the Hungarian Parliament, the Castle, the Chain Bridge, the Gellert Hill, the Palace of Arts, the National Theatre and the rest of the bridges in Budapest by night!
Good luck
dear rmm,
i got some point to ask ur suggestion. i have planed 5days in romania so my plan is
first 2days in bucharest
3days to sinaia /bran
then bran to sibiu
last day sibiu to budapest
what do u think?
dear siggiboys
i just studied about hungary
what i plan is like 2-3 days in budapest
then i wanna go to thermal bath as like u said in gellert baths.its very nice. i wanna try.
however,
if u could help me one more thing, pls recommend me which area to stay in bucharest and budapest
thanks
Do you mean 2 days in Bucharest, 2 days in Sinaia-Bran and the last day in Sibiu? It's a relatively good plan, but Sinaia and Bran can be visited in 3-4 hours each, it might be better to focus on Brasov (larger and more interesting than both of them). You can do Sinaia as a stopover between Bucharest and Brasov (it's located on the main railway between these cities) and Bran as a side trip from Brasov (it's less than 40 minutes away and there are buses to it every half hour).
In Bucharest try to stay somewhere close to Universitatii or Unirii squares because the main tourist sites (as well as hundreds of bars, restaurants, clubs) are in walking distance of these places.
dear rmm,
sure! so i will stay mainly in bucharest and brasov.actually, i dont wanna carry my backpack around.its a good idea to do so.
in Brasov, which area? any idea?
thanks for ur heap great advice
In Brasov it's best to stay in the old quarter (around Sfatului square), that's the most interesting part of the city.
Yes,and the most expensive. The <<Piata Sfatului Sq>> is very expensive for rent a room or a apartment, try to find a cheap and clean room, not away from city hall.Last summer I spent a week there, visiting every day another museum or location.I found at -snip- a very cheap and clean room, for 12 euro per day,and a loco guide also provided,by extrapay(30) for a day.Was a train and bus trip, this guide also has knowledges about history and places,I visited Dracula Castle by train, was about 10 euro roundatrip(train)and 8 euro for entry fees.About my room:I took a bus from railway station, for 40 cents, after 20 min I arrived at my room, basic furnished, clean, with bathroom, shower, utilated chitchen(pots, plates, forks, teaspoons, etc)and owen too. There I found clean sheets, blankets, and towels.Everything was ok for me,for 80 euro for a week...Near my room,is a supermarket, bakery and everything you need, and bus station too.I a clean, quet place. This location is situated in a suburb of the city but very accesible by bus 20 min from middle of the town,20 min from railway st,10 min away from three big megamarkets, with Mc Donalds, food, beverages, and entertainment places.Near my hostel I found a lake too, with gus, frogs, and people walking dogs. And a forest,a tree forest, very close of hostel, with people making barbeque, and sitting up to blankets listening the forest noises.I will return this summer with my friends.Ask about free room at -snip-.Is the loco guide boy who joined me last summer.
