AUSTRALIA JULY 2011- Anyone going at the same time?

I'm a 21 year old female student graduating in June 2011. I was planning on travelling to Australia the beginning of July 2011. I've never travelled before but very excited at the thought. I'm also looking for people who are also interested in travelling Australia. I am planning on getting the Working holiday 12 month visa. My rough plan was to start up in Carirns and be in Sydney end of November to attempt to work in Sydney over Christmas/ New Year and then onwards afterwards. I'm very flexible though and haven't any strict ideas in mind. If anyone wants to talk more please get in touch!

Hey guys.

Nice to see some fellow travellers on here
I land in Sydney July 1st! All by myself too..

Would be cool to see you out there!x

At the moment i'm travelling alone but was looking for someone I get along with to at least start off travelling with. I haven't booked anything yet just researching so far. How did you get ripped off? Yea absolutely terrifying thinking of going alone!! But looking forward to having such an awsome time once we get out!

Hi! I'm also a 21 year old student graduating in 2011 and was thinking about going to Australia for a year some time next summer/autumn. I haven't travelled before either and will be going along. I haven't booked anything yet or got my WHV as I am not certain about whether I'm going yet (torn between travelling and getting a grad job!) I was thinking it would be good to start in Cairns at that time of year and travel down the coast.
It sounds like we have the same sort of ideas! When do you think you'll get your WHV sorted etc?

I am so glad there are also a lot of people thinking about travelling alone to Australia!! I'm not sure yet. I've heard it can take up to 8 weeks so still plenty of time. You need to be careful on flights. The month before i graduate it is like third the price to travel there. Are you planning on spending anytime fruit picking/ harvest work? If you do 3 month working on the harvest you can re-apply for another 1 year in Australia. Any other plans for your travelling?

I thought I'd start properly planning in February once I've finished my exams. I was wondering about flights and how to get the best deals. When is it cheapest? I don't really know what sort of work I'll try to get. I wouldn't mind doing fruit picking sort of work, and it would be good to have the option to stay another year. How are you planning on travelling around? I like the idea of buying a car as it would probably be cheaper in the long run and you can go anywhere you like. My only plans really are that I would like to go along the coast between cairns and melbourne and maybe out towards alice springs and ayers rock if I get the chance, getting work wherever I can!

I've only had a little look. It was cheapest in June -£500ish but i suppose it might depend on where you are travelling. There was mid-July for £800ish. Yea I liked the option of another year but i've heard (and can imagine) it would be hard work. The only hesitation i would have with a car is if it breaks down in the middle of no where. Australia is HUGE. I also have no proper experience of buying cars or fixing cars that are broken. I'm research into ways of travelling around. There are lots of internal flights and coach buses such as Greyhound which you can hop on hop off. Still need to properly look into that though. I also think it might be safer on big commercial buses than just a couple of people in a car. Yea how long were you roughly thinking about staying in each town? How long are you roughly planning on staying in Australia?

hey everyone!!! seen your posts so thought i would join in
im heading to melbourne on the 12th july. planning on staying for a year on a whv.
i booked my flights today from the flight center in glasgow which worked out £1183 return.
my friend booked ages ago so i booked on to the same flight but im sure there were other airlines a little but cheaper than this but not by much.
the guy i booked it from advised it was best to book before the 1st jan as all long hall flights are due to increase between £100 to £200 due to the airline tax increasing which is shocking. he advised that you can book a one way but you have to have at least £3000 in your bank and be able to show proof ie bank staments if asked for to show that you have suficiant funds to book a return flight in oz . if you book a return the amount dosnt have to be as much as £3000 think its something like £2000.
how much have yous paid for your whv?

hey guys i rang up sta travel today to sort my flight tickets i got quoted £659 single to cairns or £560 to brisbane but then gotta get up to cairns. And i paid 230 for my whv id advise you not to use visa beuru! haha. Also does anyone know about the certificate thing you have to get to be able to do bar work out there? can you get it in uk before you go out or do you have to do it out there?
