hi all.
i'm planning to visit austria in early march. i have about 6 days. can anyone suggest the places to visit- other than vienna, ofcourse?
i'm trying to throw in prague aswell. not sure if that's a good idea, given the time constraint, but i'm so tempted since i'm travelling from southeast asia. any suggestions?
thx
I would avoid Vienna personally. It's not what a lot of people perceive it to be.
Full of choking traffic - night and day, some rather smelly factories - and not full of Mozart and Beethoven etc. There are a handfull of nice buildings, but everything can be viewed in a day.
Innsbruck and Salzburg are far nicer.
If you 'Do' want to see Vienna, then just one night will do it.
Austria in six days is going to be a tight squeeze otherwise. Once you've had your night in Vienna, perhaps get a train to Prague for a couple of nights instead of doing all 6 nights in Austria. If that's out of your budget - then try a bus to Kirchdorf or Kitzbuhel. It's stunningly beautiful over that part of the country, in all four seasons.
Hey there
I love Vienna, so I would not miss it for the world. The trip to Prague should be done, as that also is a city to see, but then I would go there probably with some kind of organized trip. Then you can even get a taste of Prague in a day almost, and you will not spend a lot of time looking for the correct train, bus and spend a lot of time just jumping around.
In Austria Salzburg is a real beauty besides Vienna, so I would probably go there as well to enjoy the view, the Mozart Kugeln and just some fresh air from the Alps. And then, maybe visit the Ski jumping place in Innsbruck!
Just some thoughts
By the way, the highest mountain in Austria, Gross Glockner (or something) is also beautiful!
thx for ur suggestions, flyingbob n siggiboy81
i will be in vienna for a course, so will definitely spend time there. i plan on visiting salzburg with a stop at bad ischl, n then from salzburg to either innsbruck or kirchdorf n then back to vienna to fly back.
any idea, if its shorter/ more picturesque/ cheaper to take a bus rather than a train?
Salzburg is also very nice to visit. Lots of cultural sites, palaces, gardens, and the salt mine tour is very fun.
I agree with siggiboy81. It would actually be better to go to Prague with an organized tour, because I just got back from Vienna last week and it costs around at least 50 euros each way to Prague with the train. A tour is just a few euros over 100 and you won't need to worry about train times, figuring out where things are, etc. You can leave in the early morning and arrive back in the evening.
