Sarajevo, Bosnia

Hey, I'm thinking of backpacking to Sarajevo and I was wondering if anyone has any experience of visiting the place and if you could tell me any advice about it like if it's safe for tourists, things to do etc. Thanks.

Hey Andy. Bosnia & Herzegovina is a safe place to travel these days. Sarajevo is fine - just do the same as you would anywhere else; don't walk down dark streets alone and such things. I spent 2 months in the Balkan region last year and it was great! Sarajevo isn't the most exciting city I went to in the Balkans but it was still interesting. There's a lot of recent history (WW1 up until the Balkan War) that happened here and they have several museums on the subjects. It has a nice 'Turkish Bazaar' with influences from the Ottoman rule and it has a lot of good restaurants in the newer part of town. I recommend this part of the World. Maybe check out Mostar, just a few hours South of Sarajevo - it's very beautiful!

I went to Sarajevo last year and loved it. It's got some beautiful buildings, great little cafes and restaurants and some interesting things to see and do, as the previous poster mentioned. I would also recommend a day in Mostar. I walked around alone at night in the main areas and it felt fine.
