If you're going to the Salar de Uyuni, make sure you carefully check out the tour operators. If you don't want to return to Bolivia, you can exit into Chile at San Pedro de Atacama. In Chile, Sky Airlines often is cheaper than LAN.
If you're hiking the Inca Trail in October, it's probably better to do it earlier in the month than later, as it's the beginning of the wet season. As mentioned earlier, book ahead, as hiking the trail is capacity-controlled.

I'm actually booking through STA (not sure if you've heard of it) and the guy who I'm talking to lived in SA for 3 years so I'm hoping he should sort me out a good route. The price is coming out quite reasonable actually, and he's also making sure it's a multi flex booking as I'm not sure what date I'll want to come home.
What would you say to hiking the inca trail on 18th October? My sister is meeting me out in Peru for 2 weeks and were doing this together (5 days trek I believe). Looking to head over to Cuzco for the second week to relax, eat some nice food etc (heard its quite sociable in Cuzco with some nightlife).
What would you say the weather will be like in Peru Mid-late October? I've read it could be very wet....

You'll love the food in Cuzco (but guinea pig wasn't my favorite; it was too bony). My guide in the reserved zone of Manu National Park (his home is in Cuzco) tells me that it's best to eat lightly at night in the higher altitudes. Eat more carbs, which are more easily digested, than protein and fats. And, as I mentioned in an earlier post, take it easy. I followed his advice when I was in the mountains of Bhutan last fall.
