South America from October onwards!!!

Hi all,

Hey Will,

I'm planning on going to South America in October, start in Ecuador or Peru and eventually making my way to Rio for carnival time..
I haven't really planned anything just want to go with the flow once I'm out there and stay in places for longer if I like them rather than sticking to a schedule.
Have you travelled before?
Megan

Hi Megan,

Sounds cool, let me know if you end up booking Peru for when I'm out there then and I'm sure we could meet up at some point... or afterwards if were in the same place?

Well I went Thailand for 3 weeks so I wouldn't class it as 'travelling', although me and the guy I went with packed a load in so I got a good feel of it..

I'm heading to Zambia for 10 weeks in June for a volunteer/business placement, which involves living with a local family.... so yea, will be interesting to see how I cope with that.....

So you did Australia by yourself? How are you feeling about going SA solo?

Will

Hey,

Yeah definitely, I'm probably going to book things this month. Have you booked Machu Picchu?
Ah cool, Zambia sounds good, would love to do something like that!
Yeah I went to Australia alone. I think it'll be fine, I met a load of people in hostels in OZ so I'm sure it'll be the same in SA as well. Can't wait to go now!
Megan

Hey Will,

I'll be heading down to Peru mid-november as I have a 5 day Machu Picchu trek booked for the 22nd of November! Once that has finished up I don't have any set travel plans; all I know is that I plan to backpack South/Central America for minimum 6 months! I'm doing this solo, as I am heading over to North America to work at a winery for 3 months before I head down to SA. One way ticket trip! If we're in the same area at the same time, would be good to meet. I definitely recommend booking a Machu Picchu trek if you have the funds!!

Isobel

Hi Megan,

Sorry for the late reply! So did you get round to booking anything? I haven't booked anything at all apart from my flights... I've heard you can book a lot of the Inca trails whilst you're out there in Cuzco...

Ah yea I'm sure it will, its good to speak to people on here who are doing the same thing, doesn't make me feel like I'm completely insane. Keep me up to date with what you book up anyway... I should really book some internal flights or some coach tickets maybe.

Hi Isobel,

Ah okay cool, I most probably will be in Chile or Argentina by that point! Yea we should meet, you should swing by after doing your trek! Do you have a rough plan of what you'll be doing after? Working at a winery for 3 months will be insane... You will be a connoisseur by the time you reach Argentina.

No plans as of yet, currently in the middle of creating a very basic and casual itinerary! How about yourself? Any places on your bucket list you highly recommend visiting?

Hi Will,

Sorry - bit late to the party here but I'm going to be in the same countries around the same time as you. I'm travelling with a friend through Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina to Buenos Aires from September to early December, then I'm doing the final part on my own from BA to Rio. Im also booked to leave Rio on 22nd December, we might even be on the same flight‽ (Airfrance?)
Would be great to keep in touch and hear more about where you're planning to visit - perhaps we will bump into each other or can even arrange some trips together along the way.

Enjoy your travel planning!

Sophie

Oh and btw, definitely book the Inca trail ASAP if you haven't already, it generally books up around 6 months in advance! If it's already booked up, the Salkanday trail could be a good alternative, it covers some of the same places, is less booked up and cheaper
