best route to take round routh east asia..

georgeah has indicated that this thread is about Asia

your list and routes are endless, all depends on your budget for a start

i would do as much research as you can on various countries and see which you think you prefer, but with 4 months of travel its always a good idea see where you end up and who you meet out there.

for parties i would say thailand is 1 of the best, but there might be others out there, i did the half moon on koh phangan and loved it, but then i like psy trance so i would, lol

you have a choice of the following that would be good to pick for a 4 month route. thailand, laos, cambodia, vietnam, malaysia, singapore, indonesia, philippines, maybe even myanmar. possible to do all but you would be rushing about way to much, maybe pick 4-6 that you can travel freely to, but remember that certain countries requires visa's so again, always have a good look before hand

ive done parts of thailand, cambodia, malaysia and philippines, as well as singapore, will be adding the rest to my list fot later next year

like i said do plenty of research on each country and find some places that you definitely want to go, it always pays off to look into it as much as you can

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply!

well, we're planning on taking £2500/£3000 after doing abit of research on locations, is this a possible/realistic route to be able to take ?

(THAILAND (2/3 WEEKS)

LAOS?

VIETNAM

CAMBODIA

MALAYSIA

BALI
>
INDONESIA
FLY BACK TO THAILAND)

Visa's is something i also dont know much about, can you do it on arrival or do we need to pre purchase ?

Appreciate your response!

I assume return flight from Bangkok is paid for separately.

With a total travel budget in SE Asia of £3000 for 4 months that leaves you with £25 per day. Is it doable?... perhaps, if you cut out flying to Malaysia, Bali and Indonesia and travelled super cheap overland between Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam... but it would be my definition of travel hell.

Only being able to stay in the cheapest dorms, cooking your own crap food or living on the absolute cheapest street food. Minimal beers, never being able to spurge, never being able to afford to do anything cool... yuck, that's the absolute definition of travel hell. Even the dirt poor locals will be rolling their eyes.

I would suggest you cut way back on your May - August time frame or save a bunch more money.

For Visas simply look at the appropriate Embassies websites and confirm their regulations. Google is your friend.

Good luck and have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Yeah like Terry said, realistically you could do with saving some more money, maybe another 500-1000 as you will enjoy it so much more if you have that little extra comfort to enjoy it without worrying about money.

As for visa, the only 1 you need to sort before hand is Vietnam, but you can get a visa on arrival for 15 days if you don't plan on staying any longer than that, just search on google for upto date info on that.

Cambodia,Laos and Indonesia you can pay on arrival, just remember take plenty of passport size photos with you

You can fly 1 waybquite cheap with air Asia to most places so always good have a check before hand to give you rough ideas

Matt
