Bank card that doesn't charge for withdrawing cash overseas?

Hello,

It is still available, Nationwide just pass on the VISA conversion fee of 1% per withdrawal. It hasn't really made that much of a difference to our withdrawals abroad and Nationwide is still by far the best bank for fees even with this 1% charge. Most other banks charge a lot more!

Hi Guys,

I have just opened an account with the nationwide ready for travelling the world in the summer. The card has just arrived it just has the cirrus logo on is that as accepted as much as maestro and visa. I would hate to get half way around the world to find I cant access my money?

Help me out here please, a bit confused .com

Cheers

Don't worry, your card is well accepted worldwide. Cirrus is an interbank network operated by MasterCard, while Visa's interbank network is called PLUS. Read more here: .

Thanks for the reply or is that reassurance!!!

Why don't you just ask Nationwide? We have a visa debit card linked to a Flexaccount and have no problems but Nationwide will be able to tell you whether you can use it abroad!

I have just looked on the website and came across the below in the FAQ's - Just something to bear in mind.

Caxton FX does not charge a fee for overseas ATM withdrawals. The vast majority of UK debit, credit card and prepaid card issuers do charge fees for overseas ATM withdrawals. When you use an ATM overseas the ATM owner may charge you a fee. This is not Caxton FX charging you, this is the ATM owner.

Almost every ATM in Thailand will charge for an ATM withdrawal, usually 150 Thai Baht (about £3), regardless of the amount you withdraw. A large number of banks in the US will also charge, but they normally inform you of this before letting you proceed. We point this out in section 12 of the T&C’s, “When you use your Prepaid Card at an ATM, you may also be subject to applicable fees, surcharge rules and regulations of the relevant ATM, or other financial institution or association.” Unfortunately if the ATM owner chooses to charge for a withdrawal, there is nothing we can do to prevent or refund this charge as it is not levied by Caxton FX.

Nationwide still do free withdrawals in the EU.

I think a bank should take this on and provide free international withdrawals, they would attract a lot of custom.
