Me and a mate are wanting to go to oktoberfest this year. we are Australians, but are travelling from england. we are still not sure on the best way to get to Munich and we also have no accomodation booked.
1. Grab a ryanair flight to Memmingen or Salzburg and then take the train using Bayern-Ticket.
2. http://the-tent.com still has a few open slots, grab them ASAP. They are the cheapest place to stay in Munich during Oktoberfest.
Camping is also an option if you can bring a tent and a very good sleeping bag, October can be freezing.
www.muenchen.de has a good list with accomodation during Oktoberfest, check it out.
The 'Fest' this year is 18th Sept to 4th October.
There are quite a few budget airlines doing direst flights to Munich for around £70 return.
Accommodation won't be hard to find at the moment.
I've sent you a message with an excellent website to find cheap acc. close to the Fest.
Some mates and me were looking into this a few weeks ago, but we've decided to put it off until next year. Here are two of the places we were considering:
thanks everyone for your replys. should be very helpful!
Germanwings or easyjet are good to use for getting to munich, i think. and if you want to stay here during oktoberfest, perhaps start booking now? if it's not already booked...accomodation for that period is stupid expensive. you could also see if you can find a homestay thing..i forget the website name, but one of those sites where somoene puts you up for free while you're in the city and then the same vice versa..but you would have to find someone in the oktoberfest, drinking mood. i found lots of people that live here around that time aren't always up for it. the city goes absolutely mad.
