I was wondering if the photos you use to promote the photo contest with can be entered in that contest.
I think you can ABSOLUTELY enter it! Otherwise it would be super unfair of us to use any existing photos on TP to promo the competitions, unless we only use terrible ones that have no chance of being featured anyway, kind of defeating the point
So yes, by all means, please do enter it
Yeah, definitely. Enter it!
and when will the contest selections be made and we can start voting. It says the voting is to start on 4May but the page isn't populated yet.. this seems to happen every month. The Vote banner isn't on the side of the home page, and then when the new competition comes out, it's not listed there either. can someone shed some light on this.. and if TP is using your photo for advertisement, I'm sure it should have also been entered.. (unless you work there)..

Kicking off the voting is something which isn't done automatically, but needs human action; that is, Sam or Peter (or maybe Eric) needs to manually flip the switch (usually after one last look through all submissions to see if they see anything which they think deserves featuring, which hasn't been featured yet). I don't know why it hasn't happened yet, but I do know they are working really hard on the travellerspoint redesign, so that probably has meant they haven't yet found the time for this. I'm sure they'll get around to it soon enough.

Entering a photo into a competition is a choice which is up to the photographer in question (Rhombus), not something which the admins here would do (for one because it involves editing the tagging for the photo, which we just don't do - that "belongs" to the photographer).
As for travellerspoint using the photo for "advertisement"; the website has the right to use the photo like that according to the : "By submitting material and content to Travellerspoint, you are granting Travellerspoint a non-exclusive, royalty-free, non-terminable licence right to copy, modify, show in public and create derivative works from that material in any form, anywhere. You will not be paid for granting Travellerspoint these rights. Travellerspoint does not claim ownership of any content you have uploaded.", though travellerspoint won't exercise that right if the photographer unchecks the "Allow Featuring" checkbox when uploading the photo.
