11 days in Spain - Madrid and around

Hi,

Hi Ponchik,

Check some day trips that you can do around Madrid. At least check Toledo (you also mentioned that one) and Segovia (there are more depending on you interests, like El Escorial, Alcala de Henares etc.) . I think that a flight to Santiago is possible if you book ahead. If you take 2/3 days for Madrid itself, and some daytrips around Madrid, you will have some time go to other places. The weather in the south will be more pleasant, than in the north in April.

Only be aware that if you take a flight in the early morning from Madrid, that the Metro starts running only at 6.00. (an alternative is the airport busses, that leave at Cibelles and Avenida de America.)

Greetz,
René

ryanair.com fly to a few other cities from Madrid pretty cheaply including Santiago for about 50 Euros return if you book in advance. Valencia is an interesting city, the Valencia arts and science park is amazing.

Of course Barcelona is a beautiful city and I personally would rate it above Madrid. 2 or 3 days would be minimum to soak up the atmosphere.

Hello!

I definately agree with Besalu, I also personally rate Barcelona above Madrid.

The Catalan Capital has a lot to offer you! So if you have the possibility to visit Barcelona, you really should take this chance.
It has got it all, think about the extraordinary architecture Barcelona has to offer (Antonio Gaudi) ; Lot´s of beautiful cultural buildings, very good tapas bars, breathtaking mountains, fantastic shopping areas and many many more!

Don´t forget, Barcelona has beautiful beaches, as you are coming to Spain in April the weather should be perfect for a relaxing day at the beach!

Good luck with your trip to Spain!

If you are sightseeing, then once you have 'done' Madrid then Toledo and Cuenca are my two favourite places that are within reach of Madrid. If you want some sunshine the Costa del sol or the Canary Islands are the warmest places at that time of the year. -snip-Have a good time!

Cheers,

Ps The Lonley Planet guide book is a great source of information!
