is this possible with being able to have fun and see thing like halong bay, visit lemat and get suits made or will we need to revise our plans?
thanks

Sure, anything is possible, but Vietnam is a very long country with slow ground transport and roads that are less than good (with drivers who are less than awful!) If I had only 9 days, I'd stick to the north and central regions (Hanoi to Hoi An). Your option is Vietnam Airlines - the way I like to travel.
Hi,
I personally think that 9 days are a bit too tight.
Are you thinking of flying from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City?
If not, you might need to revise the whole plan.
Basically, Halong Bay tour is 1-3 days tour. I think it's best if you spend a night on a boat. Then you need a whole day to explore Hanoi itself.
I haven't heard of Lemat before and didn't visit it while in Vietnam for 2 weeks.
To make a suit, I assume you were thinking of visiting Hoi An. If you take a bus from Hanoi to Hoi An, could be around 6 hours.
The bus itself is good as well as the road's condition.
Ho Chi Minh City can either be spent short or longer as you wish. If you want to catch a day tour to Cu Chi Tunnel & Mekong Delta, that's already 2 whole different days.
Try catching a show of Vietnam's water puppet in Hanoi or HCMC, it's interesting!

Hi
We manged to cover Vietnam in 3 weeks and still we felt that wasnt long enough. Initailly we had planned for 2 weeks, and that would have been a struggle. Halong bay is delighfull and def worth blocking out 2-3 days for that. We got the bus ticket which you can use to get from Hanoi to HCM or vice versa, worked really well and saved loads of cash by doing it this way. Try and revise your plan a little, even if u manage to get a few extra days it will be worth it! Vietnam is a great country and you can live on the PHO!!!
Enjoy!
It took me 22 days using the open tour bus to travel from HAN to HCM. You do not have enough time IMO to even attempt this journey.
I would spend 3-5 of my days in the HaNoi area, overnight bus to Hue. One day touring Hue, bus the next day to Hoi An. Two days in Hoi An. This is where you will have your suits made. Fly back to HAN from DAD. Or overnight bus back to HAN. Good luck with your planning.
I agree with Mike that you do not have enough time for that journey. I also spent around 3 weeks travelling from Hanoi to HCMC. Hanoi itself is worth a few days as it's a great city, and I'd highly recommend spending 2 days/1 night at Halong Bay. I took the overnight train to from Hanoi to Hue which was a good way to travel that part of the route.
cheers for the info
we were planning to go to thailand for 4 weeks laos for 3-5days and vietnam into hanoi and travell to HMC to fly home.
definatly get on with a rethink
