I would suggest you an original visit, south of Montargis, there is a medevial castle under construction, if you are interested might be a nice stopover (http://www.guedelon.fr/index.php?lg=en).
Then, north of Marseille, there is a place you must definately visit if you like nature, it is the "Goege du Verdons" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdon_Gorge, it is a beautifull canyon where you can do cayak activities, but during summer time it might be over crowed...
you could make another stopover around Grenoble for the mountain scenery or Lyon for the gastromie.
there might have other places interesting to see as well but I don't know a lot this part of France (I am from the south-west )
