Hi
Hi webmaster
Spam? Not sure what was wrong with my post?
Thanks, Bill
You included a hidden (shortened) URL to a website which was only recently launched and then tried to promote itself on this forum, as expressly forbidden by the . Given the newness of that website, it's extremely unlikely that you're not in some way involved with it, and aren't in fact the same person trying to promote that same website.
Anyway, the moderator for this particular forum will likely be along shortly, and either delete this thread outright, or - more probably giving you the benefit of the doubt - snip the URL from your post and reinstate the post. Or if an admin sees this thread first, they might compare your IP address to that of the person promoting the website previously to ascertain more certainly if you're the same person.
(Obviously, on the unlikely chance that you're not actually trying to promote this website, you have my sincere apologies. Unfortunately you'd be the one exception in thousands of cases of disallowed promotional posts, and the people who run this website have determined that only by being this harsh on promotional posts can they keep these forums effective for its intended purpose of allowing travellers to help other travellers, free from the millions of people trying to promote products and services in the travel industry.)

Not involved at all. Could you re-enable minus URL? Thanks
Yes - I have had loads of experience with long haul flights with babies and toddlers. My kids will be 3 and 5 early next year, and I have travelled with them on my own a couple of times each year since the baby was 4 months old!!
My basic suggestions:
1. Take multiple changes of clothes in your handcarry, for everyone.
2. On the day of the flight, discourage any naps, then it is more likely they will sleep on the flight.
3. Have a bag of supplies for the big kid - favourite toys, iPods, colouring books, play doh, books etc. although nothing with little bits that may be dropped.
4. Your 10 month old, take maybe a story book, favourite rattly thing. Will get very wriggly - be prepared to take to the galley area and let them have a stretch.
5. Remove all normal parenting rules; there is NO routine on a plane: e.g. if child wants a biscuit/chips/chocolate instead of the dinner served, don't worry about it. Watch as much TV as they like.
Stopovers:
Most airports have a decent play area for the kids where they can at least run a bit - use as much energy as possible!! Find this, then if you're lucky and there's 2 of you, one can go find out what else is available at the airport for a snack.
Aim for short transit times.
For the baby, make sure you have a carrier - an ergo or backpack type - frees up your hands for filling in forms, carrying duty free, etc!
Advantage of going when 10months, as opposed to 18 months... smaller, easier to hold (unless you are planning on paying for a full seat anyway). Advantage of being bigger - walk at airport by themselves, but then you're herding 2 cats instead of 1!!
Hope that helps, it's just a start... let me know if more questions!!
Abby
Have you tried them on a short flight to see what they will be like?
I have been on short lights where very young children have cried and screamed continuously and a long night flight where few people got any sleep because of a kid who only stopped crying to take a breath and start again.
I doubt that another year will make much difference, if any.
Abby, reading your post exhausted me.
Good on you!!!
Cheers,
Terry
Didn't mean to wear you out Terry!
Was in the zone... I've been getting ready for the home-for-Christmas flight this week with my 2 and 4 year olds!
iPods synced, new colouring books and crayons, bags almost ready, kids meals ordered...
Prepared for the battles with runaway kids approaching customs officers!! All fun!!!
