Hi Guys
I myself only have one tattoo high up on my arm...But I worked with a former Marine who had a bunch of military oriented tats on his forearms and he STILL has to wear long sleeves to work everyday, even though he's a Course Director now. And, come to think of it, a girl I know had one of those arm band dealies and she was told she had to wear long sleeves too. Yep, those tats could be an issue, I'm afraid.
a few people i know had the same problem, its something you just have to live with due to looking professional.
Hello,
Honor from TEFL course provider i-to-i here. You're right that you may have a problem with your tattoos, as they're often associated with gangs in South East Asia. But, what you need to bear in mind is that you're a foreigner, and therefore will already be seen as strange - your tattoos will just be a part of this! So, they'll probably let it slide.
Usually you apply for TEFL jobs from home, and will only have a phone interview (if that) - once you turn up, a school is unlikely to turn away a certified TEFL teacher just because of a few tattoos. You probably just want to wear long-sleeved shirts for your first few days.
The TEFL industry can sometimes be a little complicated and confusing. If you feel like you need a bit more info, you might want to download a free copy of TEFL Uncovered: How to Teach Your Way Abroad with TEFL - it includes a good overview on what life's like as a TEFL teacher, what to expect, where to work etc. You can download it here: -snip-
Good luck in your job hunt!
