Thinking of Backpacking in Ireland

Hi,

Maybe SW Ireland. What makes or breaks a holiday in Ireland is the weather. I, and a friend a few years later, have had brilliant weather in September there, but it can also rain every day too. There is no way of telling what to expect.

Connemara is nice but rather flat. I would say bicycling as distances can be great. If August, many places are already full up and expensive. If September, lots of rooms about. I booked as I travelled. October onwards is usually increasingly cold and horrible. When are you thinking of going? Good weather starts again sometime into May usually.

Work out some details on exactly what you want and when and start another thread to get the fine detail. You will need a good road map, with as much detail as possible.

Thank you, we're in the process of checking it. Due to the when we can get our vacations it will most likely be late august/early september.

Thanks again for steering me a bit!

Hi, I traveled alone to Ireland as backpacker last year and would certainly recommend it to anyone. Besides Dublin, can also explore the country side on the south side and the west (I've went to the Cliff of Moher and places near Dingle). Travelling by bus from cities to countryside is convenient as time is kept well under schedule.

Irish people are impressively nice and in the countryside, some even offered to show me direction before I asked them. It's ideal for backpackers.

Im from Ireland... There is loads of places to go, but make sure you plan your trip out.. August/Sept is the perfect time for backpacking here.
Im not 100% sure but if yo check out http://www.irishrail.ie/home/ you will see offers for a weeks train pass for €100. thats a superb deal.
Any questions? then ask...
