I've had to pay the full amount up front a few times, most recently on a trip to South Africa last month, but usually it's the hotel asking for the money in those cases. Is it the hotel or the website that wants you to pay the whole amount up front? Do other websites have the same hotel listed? Typically hotels will be listed across a number of sites, so if it's the site that wants the money up front, then you might be able to find a site that also has it, but doesn't have that policy

I dont think i ever used this site before... so dont know bout that one.
I would write down the hotel name.. and go check if they have their own website just to compare what they would be charging you.
Some websites ask a deposit (like 10%) and when you get closer to the arrival date, they will send you a reminder to pay the rest in full within a certain timeframe.
Others ask 10% and to pay the rest at arrival.
Very popular places, like Koh Phangan, most of the time ask all the money up front (whether or not in stages going closer to the arrival date).
I personally always used to book through hostelbookers.com.

I would find out the payment policy for that hotel's competition. I do know that many properties in SE Asia have real problems with no-shows and they've had to start this type of thing. Ask yourself this ? - what would you do if you discover this hotel is not for you after you arrive?
I too would be very cautious about this reservation. 9 nights is not a short stay!
I have found the hotel on a different website and that site is only asking for 30%. I did not find a website for the hotel specifically. The hotel is Moon Paradise Bungalows. I guess that is the home of the full moon party.

No it was the website itself, although it looked like a legit website I am always weary of paying for something that I have not received yet.
