Hey,
Just a quickie..
I'm travelling through S.E Asia next year
Are Cambodia & Laos worth visiting?
Also are they safe to visit alone? 20f?
Finally any hotspots people would recommend here?
Thank you
The last thing that comes in my mind when I'm thinking of Cambodia or Laos are safety concerns! After all, you're in SEA, and not in South-America.
The chances are bigger you'll robbed by a fellow backpacker who is in need of some cash, than by a Cambodian of Laotian...
It's obvious, when you're in Cambodia, you don't want to miss the boat ride between Battambang and Siem Reap, followed by the amazing site of Angkor Wat! And the north-east of Cambodia is also worth visiting.
And in Laos is the nature impressive, ranging from the 4000 island in the south, over the countryside around Vang Vieng to mountains in the north.
And if you still have some cash left, check out the Gibbon Experience in Houay Xai!
Hey Yvekes
I was just thinking of (coming from Laos) to go straight to Angkor Wat then PP followed by S'ville. Somewhere in between do a 360 across some cities. But since this sounds a bit poor.. and you just got with this perfect remark...
What do you recommend for visiting in the north east of Cambodja?
Thanks!

Hi Sarah
We travelled from Luang Prabang to Vientiane stopping over night in Vang Vieng in April 2010, not sure what your cash situation is like but we hired a private driver through Europecar in Vientiane. The reasonable cost covered the driver, petrol and insurance and was the best way to travel through Laos and might be worth considering if you are travelling alone.

What do you recommend for visiting in the north east of Cambodja?
I would recommend you to visit Kratie, to see the Irawaddy dolphin and to pay a visit to the island in the middle of the Mekong, and one of our highlights in Cambodia was Sen Monorom, Mondulkiri!
Cambodia and Laos are really beautiful countries in South east Asia, I am sure you will enjoy it. They are safe to travel solo or you may find a partner to share your trip.
Some attractions such as Siem Reap, Phnom penh, Laung Prabang etc...
I am traveling to Cambodia and see only Angkor wat temple and I really like it so much.
You should spend more than two days in Angkor.
You have to visit Cambodia and Laos they are both amazing places and yes they are both generally safe to travel solo around...but its like any place you visit (even where you live) just travel smart. I did the whole thing by boat and land. I caught the slow boat from the border of Laos to Vientieane which was a nice ride with usually a great group of like minded travellers and then we went to Van Vieng where we went Tubing which was an absolute blast and should not be missed if you like to have fun with other and enjoy a relaxing float down a river sitting in a tube and being pulled in to river bars all day long. I took a sleeper bus to Cambodia and then caught a connecting bus to Phonm Phen (Most bus lines are actually really good throughout Asia with comfortable seats and leg room. In Cambodia the Angkor Wat is a breathtaking experience and is a place you can take days to see the whole thing, along with the Killing Fields which will take your breath away in a completley different way when you learn off all the Atrocities that went on in Cambodia not that long ago thanks to Pol Pot when you learn of what the people of Cambodia have gone through in the last 50 years you will gain a new found respect for them and there beautiful country
