Anyone here from the USA?

Hi everyone,
I'm at 18 and from the UK. I'm looking to visit the USA but have absolutely no idea where to go first! I really like the look of California. If anyone is from this area or the states in general please pm me, be great to chat. Likewise if anyone wants to here about the UK or Europe I'm happy to talk

Well I would love to suggest that you should choose Niagra Falls. You would really enjoy the thunder there. Its fun of its on kind to be there and I am sure that you would surely like it.

I live in new york. If you have any questions, you can ask me.

Dear Tom,

This forum gets quite a few posts from new, inexperienced travellers like yourself regarding Canada and the US and I always tell them the same thing.... your question is WAY too general to answer.

First of all, a little bit of information regarding your interests/likes/dislikes/budget/etc. is crucial. There's an enormous difference between a hiker who wants to see a bear, elk or bison then stand on a snowy mountain peak in the middle of summer... and a backpacker who wants to hit the coolest after-hours bars and raves in New York or Los Angeles... and the millions of other possible combinations of travel experiences.

Secondly, young travellers such as yourself have NO conception just how big everything is over here... the distances are HUGE!

The US alone is over 40 times larger than the entire UK! Even the one single State of California is well over 1.5 times larger than the UK. Within the US there's an absolutely mind bogging variety of geography/climate/cultures/etc...

So, I trust you see the problem. Saying, "... I'm looking to visit the USA but have absolutely no idea where to go first!..." is no help at all. You have to tell a little bit about yourself, what you're interested in and do some minimal preparation.

The US is not difficult to research. There's an avalanche of info available on the Internet, in your library and any bookstore with a travel section.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

As Terry says, the US is huge.

If you are interested in California, however, (and many people are), there are a few major tourist attractions in the state. Specifically:

San Francisco--with its cable cars, fisherman's wharf, giant hills, beautiful bay, and lots of quirky sites.

Los Angeles--with the film studios in Hollywood, and warm beaches in the summertime

San Diego--with Mission Bay, Sea World, Balboa Park, and Mexico nearby

Yosemite Park--with gorgeous meadows, giant mountains, and waterfalls; and

Carmel/Monterey--with fantastic redwoods and cypress trees and unbelievable views.

In addition to this, there are deserts, sites of former volcanos, five major wine areas, ski resorts, offshore islands, and just across the Nevada border is Las Vegas, Reno, and Virginia City (an old western town).

Come enjoy the US, whether you pick California--or decide to combine that with other states as well.

Oh, I forgot to mention--I live in California--and have lived in both the north and southern part of the state.
