Planning to go to Varadero, Cuba. Any suggestions/tips?

Hello Alexxandra.

The best and cheapest option to stay in varadero is Hotel Escuela Turquino. This is a hotel-school for students of hospitality and turism. Last time I went there 2 years ago the room for 3 was CUC 30 including breakfast. It is just a few blocks from the city center, Viazul Bus terminal and the beach.

Take a look at the reviews in trip advisor. Actually the best reviews are in the spanish version LOL. But I just recommend it 100% if you are looking for an affordable, clean, and centrally located hotel with a very nice staff.

Regarding the rest of the journey I strongly recommend at least 3 days in Havana, Viñales and Trinidad.

If you need advice on accommodation in any of these places just let me know I personaly know a few great casas. My aunt runs a b&b in Vedado "Casa Mirta" or just check hostlebookers.com, familyguest.com (they have the largest directory fo casas in cuba, you can book online and they confirm each and every booking by phone directly with the owner so that you don have any surprises when you get there), and hostelclub.com

One very important tip is that you get well trained to spot the differences between the CUC (cuban covertible peso) and CUP (cuban peso) since this is #1 in the top 5 turists scam list. You pay something in CUC and they give you the change in CUP.

Another tip is to stick to your plans, dont let anyone else change your itinerary or the accommodations you have chosen.

But well generally Cuba is a very safe place to go, so just relax, enjoy the 21km of white sand beaches in Varadero, the mojitos and the friendly people.

Should you have any other questions just contact me ok?

Regards!!

Sergio
