My 19-year-old daughter will be returning from Europe soon. She flies from Frankfurt to Newark via Philly. It is the same distance for me to drive to PHL as it is to EWR. Since she will be landing at PHL, picking up her luggage and going through customs, may I pick her up there? I say "yes" but my husband is convinced that we will be fined for her not completing the entire trip. Please advise!
If she is indeed deplaning with all her luggage in Philly and being processed by US Customs & Border Protection then going to another terminal to catch a domestic flight to Newark then it's not an issue. No one can "force" you to take the final domestic flight, people miss flights all the time for a multitude of reasons, no big deal.
There are other possibilities to consider though... If for some reason the Philly stop-over doesn't include US CBP then she won't be allowed off the aircraft and she will of course have to continue on to Newark to be admitted back into the US.
Have a really close look at her ticket... and it's no big deal to call the airline to confirm exactly what's going on too.

In addition to what Terry has said, it may also be possible to get a refund for the unused portion of the ticket. This depends on the rules of the ticket and the airline involved, but definitely something else to look into.
Call the airline. They should be able to answer all your questions.
Excellent reminder from talesbackpack... at the very least you may be able to get a credit with the airline towards future travel... it's worth a shot...
