Excessive extra baggage fees in Kuala Lumpur at KLIA by Malaysia Airlines worst in world while on a 11 country trip. I was charged 916RM (about $280USD) for 26KG excess baggage. I was charged less for same baggage on a 19 hour flight than for this trip from KL to Manila. Further, the rules are unfair to travellers. Most airlines (including Malaysia Airlines) permitted 23KG but if there is excess baggage, the excess baggage rate will be calculated from 20KG, a further rip-off. Yes, some (not all) charged for excess baggage.
Worst the world? Hardly. $10/kg for anything over 23 kg - especially on charter airlines - is not that rare these days. How about Spirit charging $100 for carry-on luggage on a tickets that cost less than $30!
Bottom line: Learn how to travel light.
Cheers,
Terry
I'm pretty sure that's not that bad compared to other airlines... I'd imagine American airlines charge less but they tend to be the exception when it comes to luggage policies. If you're travelling around the world with 20k too much in baggage, best budget 1000-1500 for excess baggage at least...
About five years ago I came back from Thailand well overweight and got stung a lot more, but my fault.
I normally travel light and can do over 3 months in Asia with a cabin baggage holdall, which includes a laptop, leads, etc.
Most things you can buy abroad, and sometimes cheaper than at home.

Except umbrellas, do not forget to take your umbrella!
