South America for 3 months

I am headed to South America for 3 months in Ocotber 2012. Flying into Medellin, Columbia, heading down to Ecuador (Quito), Peru (Mancora, Lima, Cuzco, Macchu Picchu)Bolivia (La Paz), Chile (Santiago), Argentina,(Buenos AIres, Iguassa Falls) Brazil (Rio).

Be very careful of your money as there are lots of pick pockets about in these places.

Some places you can get around by bus. Others, plane is better though flights are expensive and best booked early. Lima to Cuzco, plane is best.

You can use local travel agents for tours (and onward travel), notably in Cuzco which has some good tours available.

Do check in a local pharmacy to see what tablets and inoculations you might need for your holiday.

Accommodation: hostelbookers, hostelworld, travellerspoint, etc. Really you only need a first day or two accommodation pre booked.

You should definitely add patagonia to your itinery. It's a must within 2 day bus drive from Santiago or Buenos Aires. Have a look at Torres Del Paine trek, Perito Moreno Glacier and Fitz Roy Moutains in a week inside superb National Park's. In october to december you will be in Spring time with many animals to see.

rsully81,

Im planning to do pretty much the same route as you are, although i'll be starting in Peru. Planning to do it all by coach as it will be cheaper and hoping to do it in about 4 months!

Im jealous haha, i was there (South America) for 7 months and loved it! It is not dangerous if you keep your wits about you... Yeah, definitely add patagonia to your to do list - Torres Del Paine is a must. Also, Banos in Ecuador is the best place for Adventure Sports. From Cusco if you cant do the Inca Trail do the Lares Trail - i did both and are equally challenging and rewarding. In Bolivia do Death Road, visit mines in Potosi, go to the Uyuni Salt Flats and also visit Lake Titicaca. And make sure that you leave all Bolivian currnecy there, as no other country will accept it. i could go on - anything you want to know ask! have fun, stay safe!

I just returned from La Paz. It is quite a place. Visit Lake Titicaca if you get a chance.

Again, not really necessary, and not helpful to the OP.
