how to plan a short visit to Rome ?

Hello guys ,
I have a connection flight through Rome , I will stay for 1 night .
That doesn't leave me much time.
can anyone recommend the city's most impressive monuments to visit.

If you only have one night, that leads me to believe you will have less than one day to sightsee. In that case, I would go for one of the following two options:

1) Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill
2) Vatican City and Castel Sant'Angelo

It's about a 4km (~1.5mile) walk between the two sites. Piazza Navona (Trevi Fountain) and Piazza della Rotonda (Pantheon) are roughly halfway between the two.

Start with one of the above options and if you think you have time, enjoy a scenic walk to the other one or at least to one of the two Piazzas.

FYI - the Trevi Fountain at night is beautiful.

Having one night in Rome, I think it is not possible to think about the Vatican museum although it is incredibly beautiful simply because it is almost a full day visit, but you can try getting the ticket over the website to skip the ticket line which you won`t believe it, however, it is still a 4 hour visit at least. You can visit Saint Peter Basilica, it requires no ticket and you can finish it and enjoy its magnificence in 2 hours or less. It would be amusing to enjoy the beautiful Rome fountains like the Trevi fountain and those in Piazza Navona. The Spanish steps is also around. The Colloseum is a must.

Hello TonyBell,

Do you already have a place to stay overnight in Rome? Or don't you want to sleep, anyways;-)?

Hello TonyBell,

If you're staying one night, you can DAY 1 visit the ==St. Peter Cathedral== (by day/afternoon if it's not a queue you can see it also inside - it has Raffaello paintings and Michelangelo's famous statue Pietá: otherwise you can see it by night, from outside, it's quite impressive). Always close to the cathedral you should see Sant Angelo's Castle, its view from the bridge, if it's a sunny day it's simply beautiful!
How much time do you have exactly?

Ciao
