Hi

Hi,

Hi Crystal

I lived in Phuket for two years working back in 2007-9 and would be able to suggest an enormous number of things to do and see. But as your questions...

What to pack? Partly depends on your tolerances to such things as tropical heat, mosquito's and so on. I doubt you will ever need anything long sleeved, even evening times. If you did feel chills at night when out to dinner or for drinks you will not be short of places at which to stop and buy a wrap for your shoulders and similar, and nothing will be expensive. Mosquito repellant is always advisable, although again it is something you can buy whilst there and often their stuff is better, especially the repellant with lemon grass added, smells good and does the job you need it too!

What to see and eat? Personal taste but a few things i would not wanted to have missed would be Phuket town side streets for architecture, the viewpoint down the southern tip in Rawai district, the big Buddha on the mountain in Chalong, eat out one night at Chalong pier if you can, Patong of course has an awful lot to see, shops, markets, shows etc. Then you have things such as Phuket fantasia but as i say i would really need to know a bit about you and what you enjoy doing. Eat as much as you can, there are (n)oodles of Thai dishes that are awesome. Personal favourites would be in English Tom Ka Gai, Tom Yum Goong, Pad Kapow, sticky rice with fried chicken or pork and chilli dip, any fish dish they do, seriously the list is almost endless, but again, what are your tastes like?

What to bring home, no idea, been here so long i cannot think what it is like to be on holiday here. Picture momento's, get as many as you can as the sites and memories will last forever i think such is the affect Thailand has on most people. Buddhist trinkets, try and get one direct from temple, even get yourself a blessing from the monk there and have the white lucky band tied to your wrist etc.

Shopping, if you are staying in Patong there is Jungceylon Mall right in the centre which is very good. Streets markets all over the place. Near Phuket town is the main Central Shopping Plaza which is a westernised mall affair. What will you be shopping for, what sorts of things?

-snip-

Let me know what you think of all this and if you need me to be more detailed!

Sincerely

David

Thanks again for your time.

How long will you be on this trip? Is Phuket the only stop? Are you landing at Bangkok first?

Bangkok is cheaper than Phuket, especially for hotels and local transportation. Other than something made in Phuket or T-shirts that say Phuket - you will probably get better deals shopping in Bangkok.

Weather:

Hi, Dave and Karazyal

Packing, im going in the rainy season so I got myself a waterproof poncho is this suffienct?

What to see I only hav 6days in patong so everyday counts.I will not be flying to Bangkok straight to phuket. I have decided I want to go to a beach, one temple, one island trip, phuket town, jungceylon mall, have a thai massage, experience bangla road and eat lots of Thai food. What do you guys think about Thai Village?Would I be able to do all that?.

I also wanted recommendations for restaurants in and close to patong as my hotel only gives breakfast.

With regards to shopping I want to bring to my family a little bit of phuket...an Adult male, two Adult females, a teenage girl and a boy and girl. Any advice?
