From my point of view, I thing plan A is the best. I had visited Thailand last year with my family and almost done same things which you had mentioned in your Plan A
thanks joseph.. yea even i felt the first one is better.. but im not sure how koh phi phi is gonna be during NYE as in celebrationwise.. the full moon seems to be a much more concrete setting on the 31st... still figuring it out..
Too many different beach areas. All of Thailand has summer like weather not just beach areas.
If you are flying in from a long distance (like UK, Oz, US or Europe) stay longer to take advantage of an expensive plane ticket. Flying in from nearby - up to you! Because you can always return.
December - January is the most expensive time of the year for hotels in Thailand.
Next time schedule some time to see northern Thailand, places like Chiang Mai and around that area. My opinion, this is more like the "real" Thailand than just beach areas.

Hey, I'm also in Thailand for new year and planning on going to the islands. I haven't booked anything yet but have found most places offer minimum stays ie 7 days. I'm no expert but that's just what I have found might see ya out there!

@karazyal : yea I realize its a short trip this is one of those trips where we sit with our buddies having a glass of beer and decide that this new years we have to do something different but never pans out!
But this time(for the first time) we ended up booking the flight tickets so yea its happening! :D
So the idea of this trip is to celebrate the new years!
Yeah the next time I'll schedule to check out thailand , cambodia , vietnam for a longer period and cover more ground. thanks!

I'm in Thailand from 5th nov to 7th January and haven't planned anything apart from wanting to to Koh samui for new years as I have a friend coming to meet me for that week. Other than that I'm not planning anything and will just go wit the flow
