7 days anywhere in the Europe.

I'm looking for ideas where to travel, preferably Europe but that's not mandatory. My boss told me to take a holiday because I've go too many days I do have myself places like Iceland, Japan, Americas ... but want to spend more in there then just a week.I don't like roasting on the beach and doing nothing so "last time hols" are not my cup of coffee , I like go around and see what's behind the hotel property Maybe some hiking in Scotland or kayak somewhere in Scandinavia... Something active
Thanks for any tips or ideas.

was extremely interesting, and affordable too. I used to find a nice inexpensive apartment, and my activity was walking from Europe to Asia (with a little help of the ferries). Fly there cheaply from W. Europe on Pegasus Airlines.

I see you are living in Ireland. So I would recommend a week somewhere in Europe. How about:

Paris (you could spend a whole week there and not be bored)
Norway (Oslo, Bergen, maybe cruise around the fjiords)
Netherlands and Belgium
Switzerland (do a walking tour, maybe around Lake Geneva)
Northern Italy (Milan, Florence and Venice)
Portugal
Western Romania (Transylvania has a lot of old medieval castles and walled towns, beautiful scenery and of course the legend of Dracula!)

thank you for your ideas, I'm in the middle of my holidays now and my plans slightly changed and I'm staying in Ireland and do some hiking around. However I have to dig up more info about Western Romania as it sounds very interesting (although all places are worth visiting) for Istanbul I have plans in future to go on bicycle around(perhaps around the Europe on bicycle). Madpoet can you please narrow what's the best of Netherlands and Belgium or what's not to be missed? (will also consider these two countries doing on bicycle)
thank you again

If you are into hiking I suggest you try Northern Norway (Lofoten, Tromsø, Kirkenes etc.) sometime, heaven on earth!

Meenee, I'm sorry but I don't know that much about Belgium and the Netherlands. I just spent 4 days there, and that was years ago. But I really enjoyed Rotterdam, some parts of Brussels, and of course Amsterdam is not to be missed.

yes Scandinavia and Norway particularly is place I would love to explore in the future. When is the "mild" season I mean like hike-able weather staring March, April?

Some really cool experiences in Netherlands

--Riding Bikes in Hoge Veluwe National Park in Netherlands and It's free!! Just head to the parking lot, pick up a bike, and explore the traffic-free scenery.
--Once every 10 years the Netherlands hosts Floriade, an international flower exhibition and it is happening this year! Head up!

and I've heard Belgium is famous for the cycling tours of it's breweries. Worth a try!
