I'm afraid its pretty unlikely that you will find anything within that budget. Jan is high season and things are just so expensive in Australia. The sailing boats tend to obviously be much smaller than the powered boats and so are much more expensive to run. I think I heard that they stopped doing this, but it use to be you could arrive in Airlie and then walk down the main street and see who had a boat going out the next day and was offering a cheap prices to fill any remaining spots. But I think they stopped doing this because obviously everybody latched on to it and wouldn't book a trip until the last day. But I'd still say your best bet is to just show up and check it out, but expect to pay more like $400 for a two day trip.
