Traveling Australia via campervan

Me and a friend are going Australia in November and want to travel around in a campervan. Can anybody who has already done this, or anyone who is doing this please give us any advice on

If you go into STA travel agents and pick up the Australia guide it has a whole section on campervans from 2 people to 6 and the rental prices. You can get some with just about enough space to sleep and others have bathroom/ kitchen unit/tv etc and go up in price. I dont know anymore than that though, we were thinking about doing a similar thing!

Hello, thanks for the reply. We had an appointment yesterday at STA and they said they are quite expensive as they see us as proper tourists and charge a lot of money (not sure who or what on)

So i was wondering if anybody had actually bought one private and sold it at the end of their trip. We are looking at the renting but we want to go for as long as possible, and if we ended up going and renting a camper for a year that would be a lot more than just buying one.

Let me know how you get on and what you decide to do.

Anyone?

Hi, If you intend going to OZ for a year I would definitely purchase a camper over renting or even cheaper is to purchase a ordinary panel van and get yourself a matres, camping gas stove, camping shower, chemical WC. I did this a few year ago and saved thousands over renting and with a ordinary van it's much easier to find a low mileage van than a camper and also much quicker to sell when you have finished. I don't know were you intend to start but Western Australia is probably the cheapest place to get a van and Sydney the best place to sell. Make sure to advertise it at-least a month before you want to leave then you will not be forced to sell it cheaply because you are just about to leave. One other benefit with a van is that it's more secure if you leave it for the day in the midle of nowhere to go exploring for the day. Anyway have fun on your trip. Shane

we bought a van and sold it for the same amount after 3 months and 17.000km. Found it on gumtree.co.au and sold it there. Pretty straightforward thing, no red tape involved. Lots of vans to choose from. Sydney, Melbourne and Perth have the most. t-a-travel
