Nabihah, you seem stressed out and lost which is completely understandable, especially when it comes to budgeting however we do not know many important information to evaluate your budget: cities you are going to, level of comfort required for the accommodation, means of transportations favoured, food, etc.
Basically, travel slow and on land to pay less (buses, trains), walk, eat less and eat street food, sleep in hostels (dorms), etc.
Same if you go with someone or want to share the trip with someone, make sure they match this life/travel style.

I'm planning to go Sydney then Melbourne, undecided where to go after. I was thinking to stay in decent hostels, etc.
sydney and melbourne are definitely on the top of the living cost per day in Australia, if you get a working visa and work it should be fine (if you find a job), if you just travel and do tourism, it depends how long you want to stay and what level of activities/excursions you plan to do but don't plan, £3k is a good amount for just one country, you'll be fine.
