Greenhouse Hostel - stayed there in 2006 (private room) and it was very nice and, for Australia, no too ridiculously expensive. Mind you, that was when £1 could buy you $2.5, rather than today's $1.5...
Don't stay in Coffee Palace! I stayed in Melbourne Metro which was nice, albeit very big
Oh really... How come not coffee palace? I wanna stay somewhere that's pretty social and fun...
I'd recommend Base St Kilda if you want somewhere social. There's a bar on site and the hostel itself is lovely. They have a girls only floor which is pretty good!
Coffee Palace was the dirtiest, nastiest hostel I stayed in in 18 months of travelling, in fact I think it was the only hostel I genuinely didn't like out of all those I stayed in.
Have you checked out the list on TP? Especially the Quick Compare view method as a way of finding the ones that at least have all the facilities you are after. It can be easier to narrow down after that based on more subjective things (location/rating etc).
