Hi!
My bf and i where looking for a bus that would take us from salvador to belem. looking in the net i cant seem to find any bus that does this route. flights are way too expensive and we are running on a lower budget. We dont mind spending numerous hours on the bus. has anyone done it before? is belem and the excursions and activities around the city worth it dought? Thanks a lot all sorts of tips will be much apreciated.
Clara.
Hi there,
I haven't been to Belém but I've heard it's pretty interesting - it's quite a long way off the beaten track though. There are flights with GOL from about R$490, which is about £150 - were those the types of prices you found. There are other budget airlines (like WebJet, Azul) which might be worth a look. Long distance bus travel in Brazil is not cheap either!
Viação Itapemirim does the Salvador to Belém run - but not every day. Check on the Netviagem website. A "convencional" bus (no sleeper seats, the least comfortable and most basic bus) costs R$314.50! So only a third less than the plane. The bus is 33 hours versus 5-7 hours on the plane (including stops). 33 is certainly what I'd call "numerous"...
All the best!
Will
