NZ has loads of backpacker hostels, once over there you'll pick up printed directories but maybe you'll want to prebook your first one, I'm sure you'll find lots listed on hostelbookers or hostelworld (spit) or in the absence of other recommendations I know that a few years back Base Backpackers were well regarded in Auckland and Christchurch - where do you fly into?
Yeah i was thinking of pre booking a place for the first week or 2. Most likely be going straight to Christchurch to begin

Yeah getting a work/travel visa.
Well I'm going straight to Christchurch and stay there and work for about 5/6 months then probably travel around after that
I'm in Christchurch at he moment and the local tourist info is constantly full of people trying to book accommodation, so I'd book your first few days in advance!

No nothing set up at the moment. But I have heard there is plenty of work out there what with the earthquake.
Nope just going out there on my own and trying to survive haha
