Hi travellers,
What kind of things do you enjoy seeing and doing, and what would be the deciding factors?
I really enjoyed both countries but if I had to choose I'd go for Vietnam, although it's a close call! The food was outstanding there and I found the history really interesting. Indonesia perhaps has more beautiful scenery, but in my opinion there are less interesting things to see and do than in Vietnam.
Personally i think 3 weeks is a good amount of time for Vietnam, you can hit all the major sights and spend some time on the waterways around HCM.
Indonesia is also spectacular, however i think 6 weeks is a better amount of time to appreciate alot of the islands.
As Bex said read up on both and make a decision that best suits your tastes, but i think whichever destination you choose will be a winner

All I can say is that the Vietnamese people are probably the friendliest of all in SEA - do your research if you go there (enough scams around to keep you poor) - I love Vietnam, but hate the way they drive there (buses can be dangerous, beware).
Vietnam is better for your 3-week trip. It's a beautiful country, many interesting and natural sights. The food is really good and traveling around is fast and easy.

We wanner travel and get an impression of the country, its citizens, culture, and everything else, for perhaps two weeks. For round about one week we are looking forward to stay at different beaches...

To be perfectly honest, the beaches in Vietnam do not compare with those of the Thai islands or Bali

Itinerary from North to South is very interesting !
HaNoi is my Capital in the North, HoChiMinh city is the develop city in Asia it in the South.
We have 29 provinces have beach along the trip.
Special Ha Long bay is 1 in 7 wonder world.
Have some beach really nice : Nha Trang, Da Nang, Phan Thiet,...
