Lone female traveller Melbourne November

Hi everyone

Hey Charlotte
hope you have an awesome trip, first time i ever travelled australia i landed in melbourne, i stayed in a cheep hotel though when i was there, i reckon to get to sydney you have a few options, fly will be around $100 - $200 depending what deal you can get, greyhound bus, not sure how much that would be, i did a 500km trip on the greyhound bus once and it was around $55 or you could try the lift share section on gumtree.com.au always lots of backpackers advertising for travel mates on there.

I'm up in cairns at the moment and travelling alone as well, welcome to do some lift sharing with me if our paths cross

If you book a couple of week in advance, you have a good chance of getting a AUD $50 "Economy Saver" train ticket from Melbourne to Sydney. Cheapest bus ticket I've seen recently was AUD $60 with Firefly Express (overnight), or AUD $79 (during the day) with Greyhound. Might be worth it to invest of some kind of kilometer pass or something with Greyhound though, as that should work out much cheaper over the long run. Do the actual math, though, depending on some rough idea of where you'd want to go - cheap train journeys, and maybe a flight every so often, might mean the pass won't actually be used all that much.

If you intend to be in Sydney for New Years, book your accommodation now. Come July/August, only the crappiest places will be left, and it'll get worse from there.

Hi Charlotte
I am looking to fly out end of October beginning of November to land either Melbourne or Sydney ive not yet decided. Im also travelling alone which is quite daunting isnt it!
Have you heard about these intro to Oz trips you can do. Some are for a week and help you get work and neet new people. They look quite good

Im looking to hopefully get chatting to a few people here to have a few contacts when im out there too.

What do you want to do when your out there?
X

Hi Charlotte, I work opposite this place

http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Hotel_Review-g255100-d1986146-Reviews-Home_the_Mansion-Melbourne_Victoria.html and it looks fine.

It has a nice little bar and cafe out the front and is close to the CBD, especially the City Circle Tram which is free and can take you all around the city.

Good luck and have a great time in beautiful Melbourne.

Thank you for all of your responses!

Lift share is something I hadn't thought of so I will have a look into this. Thanks for the heads up about trains / buses too

I'm not out there for NY unfortunately. Only for 4 weeks. But I guess it does get booked up at peak times.

Nicola - it is daunting but so exciting at the same time. I am hoping to cram as much as possible into the 4 weeks that I am there! Would like to snorkel on the reef and do a sky dive?!

I had thought about Oz intro, but it seems a bit pricey for what it is, and I'm a sociable person who will 'hopefully' meet lots of people anyway. Let me know when you're going... Add me on Facebook if you want to chat some more, it's Charlotte Norcliffe.

Melbjanine. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Hey,
Im thinking of travelling to Australia around October/November but not sure where yet! Im not so bothered about working but I would love to sight see and do lots of different and new things which are difficult to do in England! My cousin travelled in Australia and said you would have to go to New Zealand to but im not quite sure of the distance! When I decide on dates etc I can let you know im always up for meeting and finding activities to do! x

Hi Charlotte.

That would be great. Add me on Facebook if you like. My name is above.

Hey,

I am planning on travelling around October/November time and was planning to start in Sydney, I do want to do some work while I'm there, probably start with doing the thee months in agriculture? Does anyone know if there is anyway you can go about getting employment secured before leaving the UK without booking through a company? Which reading reviews, etc, does not seem very recommended?

Thanks

Kate
