Airlines Fares Policies

So, i just booked a flight to Europe for March 2016 with Lufthansa and had to buy a full fare ticket for my daughter who will turn 2 during the trip. Has anyone had any success arguing that since the child was younger than 2 when the trip started they should not have paid full fare?

Lufthansa's policy is really straightforward: "... Children who turn two years of age during the trip require their own seat. In this case the child fare will be charged for the entire trip..."

I think that asking them to ignore their own black & white regulation is unfair. If you were a frequent flyer with them then perhaps the situation could be negotiable, but otherwise... they have to draw the line somewhere, no?

I don't think it says they don't care about customers, it just says they've encountered this question before and come up with a policy on age cutoff for infants travelling free. I'd rather have a company adopt a consistent approach like this than create an unlevel playing field by caving in to every customer demand.

Did you know the deal before you paid? ie Have they communicated poorly? If you bought the product knowing the score then that's fair enough; you had opportunity to buy elsewhere.

Ditto.

My pet peeve is the uneven enforcement of carry-on luggage regulations. Some passengers really take unfair advantage...

Cheers,
Terry
