The Baltics + Norway in the winter, would love some advice

Hi guys!

The Norweigans are an indoor society because their winters are so horrendous. Even in summer some distance up north there can be deep snow. In winter, it is not just a matter of braving the cold but also of deep snow drifts making getting about difficult.

Tromso? I would not go for free in winter:

Hi,

I am aware of the polar nights and the cold etc etc. But I have been informed that seeing the northern lights is best at this time of the year, hence my motivation to travel there, at that time.
Thank you for the link

You can see them from October onwards when it is not so cold as winter.

Aye, I will be in europe for December and January. Therefore, any time before that date I cannot physically be there haha. But thank you nonetheless

Wow, that's a courageus plan. Winters in the last years in the Baltics have become unpredictable. When I was little the first snow fell in mid October, but now it might happen only in December. If there is snow, you will need something water resistant and warm. I advice you to dress "like an onion" as they say - with several layers that you can put on and take off. There is usually big difference between outside and indoor temperatures. I visited Oslo in January and it was so cold I had to enter a coffee shop every half an hour. Thanks God they have so many free museums Good luck!

I am up for the challenge! I have been to the baltics before, but never in the winter time, and feel the need to explore my Latvian heritage. I will try not to underestimate the cold in Norway, seeing the northern lights is on the bucket list, it must be done.

Thank you for your advice

If this thread still has any actuality, I would suggest Gauja National Park, which is an absolute killer during winter IMO. The only thing is that I don't find any good info apart from local sites like , but they're all in Latvian of course (Google Translate help you :D ). If you find any English info to prepare yourself, then I highly suggest visiting this place.
