Hey, you should be o.k, I definately reccomend you get a taxi to your hostel though eh?!
Also thats a lot to do in three weeks, how you planning on getting around? Are your plans fixed?

Welcome to India.
Darjeeling is out of your way..If you want to visit Darjeeling, then 3 weeks may be short.
it is better that you fix your hotel in Delhi. It is better that some one meets you at airport and takes you to your hostel/hotel. Don't suggest you to go alone in that night.Or ask your hostel to send a car for pick you.
Alternatively, you can arrive in Chennai(nearest to singapore)and go upwards and can leave Delhi for singapore on your return.
Wish you have a good time.
I agree, definealty have a hotel booked in Dehli and try to arrange transportation from the airport. If you have to take a taxi, try to not to go alone. It may be fine, but to play it safe, you know.
Three weeks in India is not a long time in that it takes a long time to get from here to there.
If you plan on taking trains, I would arrange all your train tickets in Dehli. I was in India last March and it is Hindi wedding season, as well as Yatra, Hindi pilgrimmage season, and the trains were VERY full. There is a tourist quota on many trains, which allowed us to get tickets. Upstairs in the Dehli train station there is a Tourist Counter. Get there early, the line got really long, but it was well worth it, way easy to do it yourself and get your tickets. Some of the other train stations are a madhouse, you don't have time to deal.
To do both Darjeeling and Chennai, unless you are flying will be tough. They are so far apart.
It all depends what you would like to do, too. If you want to see the real India, you go skip Goa.
India is so wonderful, you will have an amazing time.
there are prepaid taxis that you can take from Delhi airport; pay inside the airport take the regn no of the taxi and ride to your destination. as safe as you can get without a presidential escort;-)
Visit the usual tourist places, a lonely planet guide will tell you where to go.
i suggest you travel by train if u want to see what India is all about.
a 2nd class air-condition ticket will do you good. you can book train tickets online from www.irctc.co.in if you are comming in may-june be advised its when the annual summer vacations are on in India so trains are packed. bookings are difficult in those months.
then come the monsoons from june to august. India is in full bloom then. best time to roam the country.
Click lots of snaps have lots of fun and post them online.
have fun and mail me for any other details. will be glad to help if i can
gurdeep,
that info has helped me a lot. thanks. im going to india in october. i might PM you in a few months for some specific info - would that be okay?
thanks,
E
octobers lovely weather in . not a problem. would be glad to help in any way i can.
suggest you also try to incorporate amritsar in the state of punjab if possible. its where the golden temple - a holy shrine and the jalianwala bagh - its the site of a big massacare in India's independence struggle are. both are def worth a look see.
also an hours drive from amritsar is the wagah border between India and Pakistan. the flag lowering ceremony is wonderfully co-ordinated between the two sides and crowds throng daily to watch it.
drop me a line anytime - snip -
add me on your messenger also if you want.
Regards,
Gurdeep
