What are the requirements to obtain a Swiss Passport?
Become a citizen of Switzerland.
Easier said than done.

it is a bit trickier that though, of course
yeah u marry someone and then you have to live here for either 2 or 5 years (australian embassy told me five swiss told me 2) and then u can apply for one which doesn`t mean u get one...... but the first step is to marry someone
who would want a swiss passport? much better to have a uk / irish passport than a swiss one due to the benefits.
concerning citizenship it ranges from country to country.
if you are born in a certain country and have been out of the country for too long then in a lot of cases one is not entitled to a passport of that country...germany does this i know.
if born in a country and have lived all your life in another but you were only born in that country...in this case - france - then you will always be french no matter what to there government - once born there you are a citizen for life though you can claim citzenship of that other country and you may be living in.
if you were born and raised in some country and your father changes his citizenship then you are not entitled to a passport though you were born in that country! and if you have lived out of the country for too long! - no government likes to see a fellow comrade change there citzenship for any reason...i know germany are against this too.
i imagine in switzerland the laws are even worse!

I'm a 100% Swiss (even many generations back). But to answer your question about obtaining as Swiss Passport.
It is quit difficult to obtain, I would say. You would have to be born in Switzerland or lived there for many years (12 years at least). Of course you could marry someone, but nowadays you will not be handed out the red passport by exchaning the rings. There are stricter rules now.
As Switzerland has states similar to the US, each "canton" has different rules about becoming a Swiss citizen. The local community will have to vote about your application, tendencially it will be easier to obtain in big cities (e.g Zurich, Basel, Geneva) than in small villages (this effect is called xenophobia). But you would have to have lived at the same place for several years beforhand of course.
Additional requirements (example from canton Zurich)
- the person should be integrated into Swiss socienty and living habits
- you should be able to support yourself and your family financially
- You should speak the local language (German, French, Italian or Rätoromansch)
- no crime record
- no record of you not having paid your bills
etc.
I hope this was any help to you, but if you have an EU-Passport (from the old EU-countries only, as far as I know) you could easily come live and work here in Switzerland (some cantons even allow foreign residents to vote communally)

Hi everyone
I live in South Africa, born and raised. I recently found out my Dad was swiss and when I enquired at the Embassy it was discovered that I was entitled to a passport, irrespective of whether I was born here or not. Furthur investigation lead me to discover that, when born, if you register your baby with the embassy, then you are immediatley classified as a citizen, no voting, no marrying, nothing. Better still is that my wife of 3 months, is immediately entitled to a Passport and residency.
