What are the best cities to live in England for an 18year old?
if you listen to one person and one person only who gives you an answer for this thread, listen to me! Newquay in southwest cornwall, the surf capital of england, ibiza of the UK, party center of england, 200 pubs and bars, like 12 nightclubs, amazing beaches, small town in winter with amazing locals, summer time the place explodes with young people who come to party and party hard population goes from 30,000 to 200,000 in just the first week of summer, its insane!! i lived there for three years while in the navy and had the Time of My Life! if your looking for a great place to party in England, go to Newquay! have loads of pictures if youd like to see some. i also travelled and partied all over england so this is not the only place i saw, i have a wide range of knowledge on the country from an American's point of view.
No, Listen to me
LONDON
LONDON
and
LONDON
Try these suggestions as I think the ones above have been tainted by bias...
London - great city, big but expensive. I take it you are studying over here? If not, the working wage will generally reflect the expense of London. I'm not sure where you're from but if you're from a main US city then it's probably not a patch on that. Still big for the UK though. The best city in the uk for nightlife, food, everything! Just depends on whether you want something a little different to the usual BIG city.
Brighton - if you still want to live in the southern part of England (where it's generally warmer) then this place is great. Not as expensive as london, a manageable size, great nightlife, music scene, very open community and lots of independent shops and boutiques - something you don't generally find in most of the other major cities. Plus it's on the coast and is really close to london with great travel links to other cities, airports and all that jazz.
NORTHERN CHARM...
Manchester - further north, great nightlife, cracking people, a very attractive city and, like Brighton, more independent shops rather than the generic chain stores you find everywhere.
Liverpool - once again, if you can get past the accent then the people are so friendly and it's a cracking city. Due to be European city of culture in 2008 the city is undergoing lots of rejuvination (and has done in the past 20 or so years). Lots to see and do, but a little bit colder than down south.
Newcastle - to be honest, in any of the big northern cities, you'll be made to feel at home. People tend to be friendlier and more down to earth, so if you like that then Newcastle could also be for you. A massive shopping centre, lovely surrounding area, a bustling city centre and loads of north eastern charm to it. As said before, a little cold, but Geordies don't seem to mind as they typically wear t-shirts all year round because they're so HARD. haha.
Other cities you may want to look into are Birmingham, Sheffield, Oxford and Cambridge. If you want to venture slightly further, you could try Cardiff or Swansea in Wales, or Edinburgh or Glasgow in Scotland. I have only gone into depth with the ones above because I know a fair amount about them and have been/lived there for a while. I actually grew up in Oxford so I can recommend that, but wherever you go you'll enjoy the UK.
If I had my time again in England I would seriously consider somewhere in Yorkshire. York itself is very nice.
But, as an 18 yo: I would have to agree with London or Brighton.
London is so dirty though, not just dirty as in Dir-ty but in every aspect. sure it has lots of museums, cool historical stuff, lots more people but London is more of a place to go visit once or twice to say you have been there. like it was stated above, its so expensive to live there. and everything is so spread out, you have to take a bus, taxi, subway, sometimes all three, to get anywhere and then back again. small towns, like newquay, are great because you dont have to ever get in a car or bus to get anywhere, the whole town is jampacked into one small but actually quite big area and can walk anywhere within 30 minutes. everything you want to do is right at your doorstep: pubs, clubs, beaches, shops, grocery store, museum, churches, tons of hostels, great restaurants, you name it, its all within a short walk or if your lazy about a 2 pound taxi ride.
MAD FOR IT!!! MADCHESTER
[ Mad as opposed to MAA!!!! teehee :) ]
Oi! what's all this about England? What about Scotand? Ok so i imagine that you meant Britain.....So What are the best cities to live in in Britain?....
Glasgow
I'll say it again. GLASGOW.
And second place London or Brighton.
Glasgow just buzzes with excitement, bars, shops, people, parks, food, music, clubs, art. Whatever you want.
Oh and there's countryside nearby if you want that sort of thing.
The only thing it doesn't have a lot of is sun, but, hey the people make up for that.
Hey monkeycat, glasgow is a dope city (i live here) but the original question was england, so maybe there's a reason for it? I'm glad you blew Glasgow#s trumpet cos I did't want to otherwise I would have been carried away haha.
Do you live here too then? Or just have a holiday here?
Brighton! Go for Brighton! I love Brighton!
