I am trying to plan for a one week trip from the US, since I have a toddler, I dont want to travel too long. 8-10 hrs max. Any suggestions for relatively warm weather? We like to explore historic cities, maybe beach for a couple of days..
Where in US will you begin your journey? I'm assuming not the west coast, since 8 hours from the west coast in the direction of Europe means it'll likely end up in the ocean
Also, in December, someplace with warm weather in Europe means your choices would be limited to mainly places in southern Europe, or the Canaries.
Texas. Southern Europe sounds good. A few years ago we did Parice, Nice, Rome, Florence and Venice..it was the best time of my life! This time around we have a 21 month old, so it will be toned down quite a bit. We were planning to go (bought tickets and everything) to switzerland in fall but that plan fell through, obviously it will be too cold there now, so looking for some ideas
Hmmm I think this is going to be tricky. From Texas to, say, Paris, even on a direct flight, it's going to take 9-10 hours already. To go somewhere else in southern Europe, chances are, you will have layover somewhere, and it's going to be difficult to travel for less than 15-16 hours or so. Minimum.
For what it's worth, I was going to suggest either Malta, Turkey or Canary Islands. They have plenty of history, and there's a few beaches handy, plus they're warmer compare to other parts of Europe at that time of year.
Good luck!
Since u have planned ur trip in December and u want warm places, i would recommend u to either choose Turkey or Egypt. But keep in mind that Istanbul is quite cold in December. I was in Istanbul this year with my 1 year old son in the first week of May, it was difficult to protect him from the cold winds!! Certainly December would be cold in Istanbul. The best would be to spend a few days in Istanbul and then move on the beautiful mediterranean coast of turkey exploring the cities of Antalya, Kemer, Mugla and Fethiye. Though the water will not be warm enough for swimming, but u will have a peaceful time away from the high season crowds.
Cheers
Arif
