Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo and Indonesia

Hello there...I am looking to spend around 8 weeks in the region. I've been to Thailand before and I'm interested only in the islands there - a beach/spa break, wouldn't want to do more than a week there. The other countries are areas I've never been to and I'm looking for help and suggestions on how to plan my trip there. Its all last minute - I'm looking to go in the first week of November until the end of December. My budget is about $5000 for hotels and local transport included...is that realistic? I would much rather fly between countries/cities since I'm not the best road warrior!

If you want to fly, be sure to check the AirAsia site, this is a Malaysian low cost carrier with a Thai and Indonesian subsidiary. Easy to book, lots of connections and a new fleet.
And euh..., with 5000 dollar you'll be able to splurge everyday!!

Thanks Yvekes! I am looking at Air Asia as well as Bangkok Air for internal flights. The budget is for 60 days and includes all airfare, hotel and food..Since I'm traveling solo - want to make sure I'm safe as well, so will splurge on rooms a little bit!

I am looking for suggestions on where to go - how long etc as well, so any thoughts, please pass them along.

I'll give you some of my favourites of these countries:

Thailand: tour the historical parcs of Sukothai and Si Satchanalai by bicycle; trek around Mae Hong Son; Explore Bangkok by foot and the khlongs; visit the Royal Palace;...

Malaysia: visit the Petronas Twin Towers (for free!); experience the diversity of cities like Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown and Melaka;...

Borneo: hike in Bako National Park and the Niah Caves;... (and while you're here, why not go to Brunei with its splendid museum of islamitic art!)

Indonesia: visit the ruins of Prambanan, and certainly you have to visit some volcano's like Bromo, Beratagi Rinjani, the one around Bukittinggi and even in the northern part of Bali there's one worth visiting; snorkelling in Manado, the city of Ubud and the countryside around this city;...
