Santiago to Lima by land: Hot/not?

Hey There,

I cannot tell from your post what time window we're looking at. That doesn't help.

The journey from Santiago to Lima could be made a boring one as well as very interesting, depending chiefly on how much time you have. Taking the panamericana along the coast is fairly boring I'd say (especially the Peruvian part), although a lot cheaper than flying and the entire journey shouldn't take more than 30 hours tops. If you went through Argentina and Boliva, the journey suddenly turns very worth while, but takes time. You shouldn't attempt this route if you have less than 2 weeks (3-3.5 if including Machu Picchu), because of the many sights.

Thanks, that was exactly the advice I was looking for.. We have 3 1/2 weeks & wanted to know how much time it would take without a pre- stipulated time limit. Since my post, my web information regarding Lima & Carnival has proven to be false, so now we'll probably be going further up north for that.
