Not sure which one to go for.

I know there are tonnes of these threads on here but I still really don't know what bag to buy for my 9 month trip to Oz and NZ. Everyone says pack light but this isn't going to be an option for me as I will be needing to take a few items of smart clothing as well as a wedding outfit (I am attending a three day wedding in Sydney) on top of the normal day to day clothes I will need.

pro of the Jalan: wheels
contra the Jalan: heavy (over 4 kgs when empty), the carrying system might not be as comfortable when fully loaded due to the wheels, when stuffed to the brim with clothing and other knickknacks the thing will weigh approx. 35 kgs

pro Caribee: light (under 3kgs when empty), wenn full the thing will weigh around 25 kgs

If I was you I would mail order both packs and then try them on fully loaded, preferably walking 2 miles and more. Try to pack them so that the daypack is empty and packed folded into the main compartment.

BTW, I have taken smart clothing along in a bag that held 50 liters, without needing an extra daypack. You might therefore want to look at the Caribee packs that are 65 liters instead 75. Also consider taking a second bag- if you are attending a wedding in Sydney it is safe to say that you got friends or family there, thus you could leave some of your stuff with them. In this case you could also use a smaller backpack.

Finally keep in mind that you should never carry more than 25 percent of your body weight, below 15 percent is ideal for a backpack.

And the smart clothing? Bring smart clothing that washes easily and that you don't mind too much ruining. Treat it as everyday clothing too and wear it when everything else is dirty. Bring 2-3 "every day" outfits and one smart outfit. Maybe your smart clothing is even smart enough for the wedding?
