Hi i`m looking to stay in Phu Quoc for a week or 2 next month .Can anyone recommend any cheap accommodation on the island ?? i`m on a tight budget $35 a day so cheaper will be better
Paul,
Never stayed on Phu Quoc, but did look in my LP guide book for a few options. I thing your best bet is to read the reviews of the hotels/resorts that are in your price range. Rainy season is July-Nov. I don't think I would book anything before I got there. Look over what is available and make your choice. Here are several under $35/nite that had reviews.
Hey there,
Phu Quoc has gone quite expensive in recent years, with all the resorts sprouting out and with domestic tourists.
Anything on the beach is going to be quite pricey (by our thrifty backpacker standards...). I remember i paid about 40 US dollars for a chalet which i shared with 2 others - so it was still quite affordable. However - the price on single options dont fall much at all - i think you can count on paying at least around 25 dollars for a single, if i remember right... That was at the Ngan Sao (thousand stars) resort - was quite a nice, quiet place to stay, and right smack on the sand...
So its best if you can find people to share with. The really cheap options (around 10 dollars) are all in town - which is at least a 2k walk from the sand...
The good news is that everything else is much more affordable - local bites at the night market in town (fabulous sea food), beer, even transport (get the green MaiLinh cabs, or rent a bike...)
Cheers guys. Sounds a bit pricey for accommodation, when i said ive got $35, thats my daily budget
so i might give it a miss if i cant find a $10 room or less .
I was thinking about the Mekong Delta also .Anyone know if i can find a cheap guest house in them parts ?.
Ive got about 10 days before my TEFL course starts so i wanna place outside of Saigon to relax .
Paul,
I checked a few cities in the delta, but could not decide on one that might be acceptable. I am going to vote that you take the overnight bus to Nha Trang. I paid $8/night for a nice room, spent about $6/day for all meals. Nice beach, Cham ruins, pagodas, swimming, diving, plenty to do. Read my blog.
Or perhaps The Paradise Resort may be perfect for you. $25/day for a room and all meals. Too quiet for me, but good place to chill out. Read 'On the road to Paradise'. Good luck with your planning.
Some three years ago we stayed on Phu Quoc Island, and indeed, real budget places are hard to find. We visited over 10 hotels and finally checked in in Viet Thanh Bungalows (on the beach, check the pics on the net!). Back then, it was €8 for a large bungalow with bathroom (and a fridge), but without breakfast. This was our most expensive room in 10 weeks in Vietnam...
We were lucky because another couple was just checking out, but if they don't have any vacancies, they let people sleep in their own house.
So you see, it must still be possible to find a cheap bed!
And if you want to visit the Mekong Delta, don't forget to go to Can Tho to see the floating market!
Thanks. It seems they do $10 rooms which is fair enough, i might give them a call when i`m there .
Also Thanks mike i will check out what you posted .
